Amy's Dreams and Delusions

 Mild Traumatic Brain Injury
Back to Full Blog

So that's the final diagnosis. It happened on Election Day, 2001. I was driving to work after going to the polls, and I was rear-ended.

I thought I was fine. I went into work.

But in the next 6 months, I was messing up more than I wasn't. They sent me for drug/alcohol tests, but nothing came back positive. They couldn't figure out what was wrong.

Nobody could. Not primary care, not psychologists, not psychiatrists. Not the neurologist. Not the dentist, who sent me to the allergist, who found me a better primary care doctor.

Finally, the last time I stayed at Palo Verde for 6 weeks, they figured out it was mild traumatic brain injury. Almost 4 years after the fact!

How else can you explain the loss of memory, change of personality, etc.

Well I'm studying in a couple of workbooks, and I do IQ puzzles and stuff to try to re-train my brain!

Anybody else have this brain injury? Advice? Comments?

I'll be searching for more info, will share!
